The Wilmington Branch Library is conjuring up a bit of romance for Valentine’s Day--romance novels, that is. “We’re overrun with romance novels. We’ve got barrels of them,” said librarian Pat Deutsch. So at a book sale Monday and Tuesday, the library will feature paperback romances at prices that even the cold in heart will find irresistible--5 and 10 cents.

Together with mysteries, romance novels are the most popular books circulated by the library, Deutsch said. The element of fantasy draws readers to the genre, she said. “They put themselves into them.”

Although romances will be at the heart of the sale--which is from 1 to 7 p.m. both days--book buyers will also find several kinds of science textbooks, psychology and self-help titles and lots of fiction. Paperbacks will be sold for 20 cents, hardbacks for 50 cents.

Deutsch said there are hundreds of books that have been donated or taken out of circulation by the library. “We hope other people who don’t normally use the library would avail themselves of this sale,” she said. Sponsored by Friends of the Wilmington Branch Library, the sale raises money for library programs. The library is at 1300 N. Avalon Blvd.
