Harris, who ran for Iowa State in the mid-1980s, won in 1 minute 7.03 seconds. He was going after the world-record time of 1:06.87 on an indoor oversized track set by Butch Reynolds in 1987 at Johnson City, Tenn.
Frankie Atwater of Iowa State, who finished second, set a collegiate record of 1:07.73.
