SAN CLEMENTE : Council OKs Funds for Directional Signs

Share

In an attempt to direct tourists to free parking in the downtown area and to guide them from the freeway toward the beach, the City Council has decided to spend $3,000 to post signs along main streets.

The signs, requested by area merchants, would direct people to a free parking lot off Avenida del Mar and also would point the way to the San Clemente Pier.

“We need to get people from the freeway through the business district and make them aware of parking downtown,” said City Manager Michael W. Parness.

Rick Anderson, spokesman for the Pier Bowl Merchants Assn., praised the city for its efforts. “It is really exciting to see that partnership, and we appreciate the support,” he said.

Parness said that the city has long-range plans to create a system of signs that would include landscaping but that the signs approved this week would be posted in the interim.
