The Dogs Have the Day: More than a dozen pop music artists have contributed songs to a new album recorded to benefit the animal rights group People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. “Tame Yourself” will be released to radio stations today, and the album--a collection of 14 original songs by such pop and rock artists as R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, the B-52s, the Pretenders, Exene Cervenka, k.d. lang, the Indigo Girls and Howard Jones--will be available in record stores Feb. 28. Speaking about the project in a phone interview Wednesday from his studio in England, techno-pop artist Jones summed up the project: “The cruelty we inflict on animals reflects strongly on how we as humans regard each other. Those of us who worked on this project see an inherent link between animal and human rights.”
