Two people who were killed in a Lancaster traffic accident were identified Thursday as Charles Ellias, 43, and Susan Armstrong, 47, both of Tehachapi.

They were killed Monday night when their car careened off the Antelope Valley Freeway and onto a Lancaster street below, said a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.

Ellias and Armstrong, who both taught English and social studies at Jacobsen Junior High School in Tehachapi, were on their way to Los Angeles to pick up Armstrong’s daughter when the accident occurred, said Richard Dieterle, principal of Jacobsen.

Officer Clarence Johnson said the two were traveling south on the Antelope Valley Freeway at 7:20 p.m. when their car jumped the guardrail where the freeway passes over Avenue J. The car then collided with two other vehicles traveling on Avenue J. The drivers of those cars suffered minor to moderate injuries.
