New Mexico St. Holds Off CS Fullerton

Reggie Jordan scored 18 points and Randy Brown and Tracey Ware each added 16 as No. 12 New Mexico State defeated Cal State Fullerton, 80-74, Thursday night in a Big West Conference game.

The victory was the Aggies’ 29th in a row at the Pan American Center, the nation’s third-longest homecourt winning streak.

The Titans (13-10, 6-8) pulled within 76-73 on a dunk by reserve forward Kevin Ahsmuhs with 2:03 to play. But the Aggies (19-2, 11-1) made four free throws, three by Jordan, in the final 1:37 to seal the victory.

Joe Small scored 19 points for Fullerton. Agee Ward added 16, Wayne Williams 14 and Bruce Bowen 12.

The score was tied three times and the lead changed hands twice in the final 5:30 of the first half.

A basket and free throw by Chris Hickman with five seconds left gave the Aggies a 39-36 halftime lead.

New Mexico State built a 55-43 lead with 13:01 to play, but the Titans mounted another comeback led by Ward and forward Aaron Wilhite to close within 64-62 on a basket by Wilhite with 6:55 to play.

The Aggies went on a 9-2 run and led, 73-64, with 4:39 left on a basket by Jordan.
