‘Baby Talk’ Finally Scheduled; ‘Quantum Leap’ to Return

“Baby Talk,” the ABC comedy based on the hit film “Look Who’s Talking,” will finally debut on Friday, March 8, at 8:30 p.m.

Originally scheduled to premiere last September as part of ABC’s starting fall lineup, production was delayed when the sitcom’s star, Connie Sellecca, departed after a dispute with the producers and Columbia Pictures Television. Her role was subsequently recast with Julia Duffy, formerly of “Newhart.” Tony Danza stars as the voice of the baby.

“Baby Talk” will move to its regular time period, Fridays at 9:30 p.m., on March 15, replacing “Going Places.” An ABC spokesman said Friday that “Going Places” will have completed its 19-episode order and remains a contender for a spot on the network’s 1991 fall schedule.

Meanwhile, “Quantum Leap,” which has not aired in more than a month, will leap back onto the NBC schedule Wednesday, March 6, at 10 p.m. with an episode in which the time-traveling, body-snatching physicist (Scott Bacula) winds up as an 8 1/2-months pregnant woman, according to a source close to the show. The series had earned a respectable audience as well as an Emmy nomination for best dramatic series when it aired last season on Wednesday nights, but it has been floundering this season on Fridays.

“Quantum Leap” will displace “Hunter,” which has been winning the Wednesday 10 p.m. time period for NBC for most of this season. NBC declined to say Friday what its plans are for “Hunter” or what show would fill “Quantum Leap’s” current spot, Fridays at 8 p.m.
