Media’s Role in Gulf War

After wading through story after story of White House claptrap and various kinds of opinion, it’s great to read something like “Iraq Arms: Big Help From U.S.” (Column One, Feb. 13) by Times staff writers Henry Weinstein and William C. Rempel. I sure hope they know they’re appreciated! Compared with all the recent media go-along coverage of “war” events, their work seems to me to be doing a much better job of upholding what we should expect from newspaper reporting. I do watch CNN, but I’d much rather read a couple of articles of this caliber every day. Shades of Watergate . . .
