OXNARD : Council to Consider Extension for Dump

Share

The Oxnard City Council is scheduled today to consider supporting a two-year extension for the Bailard Landfill, which is located on city property and serves all of western Ventura County.

The landfill’s operating permit expires in May, 1993, and county sanitation officials are examining possible sites for opening a new landfill--a process that would take a minimum of four years.

In a report to the City Council, City Manager Vern Hazen has recommended that Bailard, located just south of the Santa Clara River, remain open “until a permanent facility is open and ready to receive refuse.”

The council will also consider proposals by Waste Management of North America, a private waste-disposal firm, to build a new landfill in Weldon Canyon between Ventura and Ojai, and a refuse transfer station and recycling center near Oxnard.
