Rhea Francisca Rimpau Sparling; Descendant of Historic Families

Rhea Francisca Rimpau Sparling, 93, a descendant of two historic Los Angeles families, the Rimpaus and Avilas, whose family home--the Avila adobe--is the centerpiece of the El Pueblo Historic Park on Olvera Street. She was a granddaughter of Theodore Rimpau, a German immigrant for whom Rimpau Boulevard is named, and great-granddaughter of Encarnacion Sepulveda de Avila, whose husband, Francisco Jose Avila, was mayor of Los Angeles under Spanish rule in 1810. Mrs. Sparling’s husband was former Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maurice C. Sparling, who died in 1965. In Newport Beach on Jan. 24.
