Conducting Honors: Lawrence Foster, the former Angeleno who conducts Strauss’ “Elektra” at the Music Center this week, has been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque by the city of Paris for his recording of George Enesco’s neglected operatic masterpiece, “Oedipe.” The historic recording received further honors from the French press Tuesday night at a celebration held at the Opera Comique. Foster plans to soon complete his pioneering set of recordings of Enesco’s symphonic output for EMI, and will return to Paris to conduct the Los Angeles production of Prokofiev’s “Fiery Angel” at the Bastille in November.
