COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Hernandez, Sebbo Lead OCC Past Los Angeles Valley, 12-5
Daniel Hernandez had three hits and scored two runs and Scott Sebbo had two hits and drove in three runs as Orange Coast defeated Los Angeles Valley, 12-5, in a community college nonconference baseball game Wednesday in Costa Mesa.
Sebbo had a run-scoring double in the first as the Pirates (10-3-1) took a 1-0 lead. John Arnold had a run-scoring single and Hernandez had a run-scoring double in the second to boost the OCC lead to 3-0.
Greg Fife had a two-run triple and Mike Monday singled in another run in the third for a 6-0 lead.
Mike Cutler (2-0) pitched 7 1/3 innings for the victory. He allowed five runs, but four came in the eighth inning. LA Valley (3-7-1) cut the lead to 8-5 but OCC scored four in the bottom of the eighth with the help of four LA Valley errors.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, Golden West 0--Matsui Allen had 13 kills for host Orange Coast (3-0, 1-0 in league) which won, 15-1, 15-9, 15-12. Doug Partis had eight kills for Golden West (0-2, 0-1).
In nonconference softball:
Saddleback 12, San Diego City 2--Jenny Jourdan pitched a six-hitter, did not allow an earned run, struck out eight and walked none for host Saddleback (1-3). Jourdan also had two hits, including a run-scoring double. Wendy Clemens had three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the fifth inning, and Wendy Cook had a two-run triple. Saddleback scored in every inning but the third.
Palomar 4, Fullerton 1--Erika Ostergaard allowed just one earned run, struck out three and walked one for visiting Fullerton (3-5). Amy Oberholtz hit a home run and had a run-scoring single for Palomar (8-3).
In nonconference golf at Lakewood Country Club:
Long Beach wins--Mickey Miller shot a seven-under-par 65 for Long Beach, which scored 353 to beat Orange Coast (365) and Cypress (389).
