From Staff and Wire Reports

Robert Tisch, the former Postmaster General, agreed to purchase 50% of the Super Bowl champion New York Giants. The surprise announcement by the NFL said Tisch, brother of CBS President Laurence Tisch, bought the share of the team owned by Helen Mara Nugent, her son Tim and daughter Maura Mara Concannon.

No purchase price was announced.

Robert Tisch, president of the Loews Corp., a financial enterprise with assests exceeding $34.7 billion, previously was interested in purchasing the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.

The sale coincided with the Giants’ announcement of changes in their coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Ron Erhardt was promoted to assistant head coach, running backs coach Ray Handley was named offensive coordinator and defensive assistant Al Groh replaces Bill Belichick as defensive coordinator. Belichick became head coach of the Cleveland Browns last month.
