Davey Allison, winner of the pole at the Daytona 500, made it two in a row by edging Alan Kulwicki for the top starting spot in Sunday’s Pontiac 400 at Richmond, Va. Allison, driving a Ford Thunderbird, turned in a lap of 120.428 m.p.h. on Virginia’s Richmond International Raceway’s three-quarter-mile, D-shaped layout. He beat Kulwicki by five-thousandths of a second.
