Scuds Don’t Stop Stern: The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra left a Jerusalem stage during an Iraqi missile attack Saturday night, but violinist Isaac Stern remained, playing alone to hundreds of music lovers in gas masks. After air raid sirens sounded, Stern, 71, playing without his own gas mask, signaled to the audience to stay put and played a Mozart solo to the packed, silent concert hall. It was 10 minutes before the all-clear sounded and the audience, which included Defense Minister Moshe Arens, removed their masks.
