Stones Go to War: With the release of their new single “High Wire,” the Rolling Stones are the latest and arguably most prominent rock band to record a song dealing with the Persian Gulf War. Written in December and recorded in January, the anti-war tune features Mick Jagger sneering such lyrics as: “We sell ‘em missiles, we sell ‘em tanks / We give ‘em credit, you can call up the bank / It’s just a business, you can pay us in crude / you’ll love these toys, just go play out your feuds.” The single will be released to radio stations Friday and will be in record stores next week.
