Maybe Dodgers Can Rent Out the Right-Handers’ Batter’s Box

Share

Fred Claire’s acquisitions of Brett Butler and Darryl Strawberry add speed and power to the Dodgers’ offense. The problem is the GM’s complete disregard of team balance between the right and left sides of the plate. With his trading of Hubie Brooks, Claire has left the Dodgers extremely vulnerable to left-handed pitching. I, for one, cannot recall a successful club that fielded an everyday outfield of three left-handers (Daniels, Butler and Strawberry).

Thanks to the haphazard winter maneuvers by Mr. Claire, we can now speculate that the right side of Dodger Stadium’s batter’s box will become some of the most under-developed real estate in the city of Los Angeles.
