Knicks Fire Al Bianchi, Name New President
The New York Knicks, amid their longest winning streak of the season, fired Al Bianchi as vice president and general manager Friday and named Dave Checketts as president.
Checketts, who had been vice president of development for the NBA since Sept. 1, and Richard Evans, president and chief executive officer of Madison Square Garden, said Bianchi’s position would be eliminated and a vice president of player personnel would be chosen, probably after the season.
Checketts and Evans said John MacLeod will remain as coach of the team through the rest of the season.
The Knicks 26-31 and in third place in the Atlantic Division, 16 games behind first-place Boston.
