Day Becomes Sixth Jockey to Top $100-Million Mark
Pat Day became the sixth jockey whose mounts earned more than $100 million when he rode Wild Sierra to a second place finish in Friday’s first race at Oaklawn Park.
Day joined Bill Shoemaker, Laffit Pincay Jr., Angel Cordero Jr., Jorge Velasquez and Chris McCarron as the only riders to reach the milestone.
Day, who is closing in on his ninth consecutive Oaklawn riding title, is the only jockey to ride more than 100 winners in a single Oaklawn season. The three-time Eclipse Award winner has won more than 5,000 races.
