For some time now, I have always felt sympathetic toward CBS because it has consistently placed third in the Nielsen ratings. On Sunday night (Feb. 10), however, when the network aired “Lucy & Desi: Before the Laughter,” I felt nothing but anger and fury.

The movie was degrading and insulting to the late Lucille Ball and her family. Its only conceivable purpose was to bring in ratings and cash for the Columbia Broadcast System--both of which Lucy did for well over 30 years. Let us hope that when others who have brought CBS immeasurable success in years past with their long-running shows eventually leave this planet, the Tiffany Network does not give a repeat performance.
