She Runs Extra Mile for Charity

Sherry Reynolds is putting her best foot forward and running in today’s Los Angeles Marathon to raise funds for the American Red Cross. Reynolds, director of financial development for the Santa Monica Red Cross, was inspired to participate when her husband ran in the marathon three years ago. “I was on the sidelines, and I just became hooked,” she said. “With my husband’s encouragement and support, I began to train for my first marathon nearly two years ago.”

Reynolds had never run more than two miles when she began training. Over time, she built up her endurance. Occasionally, she substitutes a bike ride or gym workout for training.

“I would encourage anyone to run because it helps you to organize your thoughts,” Reynolds said. “I also think about all the things the Red Cross is involved with and that really motivates me.”

She says she hopes the funds raised by the marathon will reach local, national and international spheres of the American Red Cross.

With the help of the Official Charities Program of the Los Angeles Marathon, Reynolds will run the marathon with pledges of dollars for each one of the 26.2 miles.

Ray Corvan, executive director of the Santa Monica Red Cross, said, “Sherry is really traveling the extra mile beyond her job description and what she is exercising is a personal commitment to the members of the Santa Monica community and the American Red Cross.”
