NBA ROUNDUP : Blazers Win as Celtics Let Guard Drop

Guards Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter and Danny Ainge scored 28 of Portland’s 33 fourth-quarter points as the Trail Blazers broke a four-game losing streak by downing the Boston Celtics, 116-107, Sunday at Boston.

Portland was protecting a 94-93 lead when Porter’s three-pointer with 5:23 left started an 8-0 run, and the Celtics couldn’t catch up.

Drexler had 12 points in the quarter, Porter added 11 and Ainge scored five as the Celtics were hampered in the backcourt by losing Brian Shaw with an ankle injury in the first quarter.

The Celtics seemed in control when Larry Bird hit his fourth three-pointer of the third quarter to give the Celtics a 78-67 lead. However, Portland finished the quarter with a 16-2 run and the Celtics never regained the lead.

Drexler had 29 points and Jerome Kersey had 23 for the Blazers.

Bird scored 28 for Boston.

Atlanta 115, Milwaukee 106--Dominique Wilkins had 25 points and 11 rebounds at Milwaukee and the Hawks made 26 of 29 free throws to beat the Bucks.

Fred Roberts made two free throws to get Milwaukee within 84-76 with 8:45 left, but the Hawks made six in a row from the line to take a 90-78 lead and later built the margin to 16 points.

Dale Ellis scored 32 points for the Bucks.

San Antonio 107, Washington 85--David Robinson scored 12 of his 26 points in the third quarter at Landover, Md., and the Spurs handed the Bullets their sixth consecutive loss.

Bernard King scored 19 points for the Bullets, who suffered their 12th loss in 14 games.

Terry Cummings scored 22 points and Sean Elliott had 21 for San Antonio.

Utah 95, Philadelphia 92--Karl Malone scored 35 points at Philadelphia, and the Jazz ended the 76ers’ winning streak at seven games.

Philadelphia had an 89-86 lead, but Thurl Bailey scored six points as Utah outscored the 76ers, 9-3, culminating with Bailey’s dunk with six seconds left.

Hersey Hawkins scored 31 points for the 76ers, including five three-pointers.
