COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Pierce Walks Home With 1-0 Victory

Moorpark College starter Mike Jenkins walked Glenn Nahmias with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to force in the winning run in Pierce’s 1-0 Western State Conference baseball victory at Pierce on Thursday.

Chris Brown and reliever Louis Birdt held the Raiders (0-1 in conference play) to one hit, a double in the fourth inning.

Birdt, who came on in the eighth, retired nine batters in a row, including four by strikeout, for Pierce (8-8, 1-2 in WSC play).

The loss was the first in five decisions for Jenkins.

In other games:

Valley 10, Bakersfield 9--Chad Ratliff was three for five with two runs batted for Valley (5-10-1, 2-1), which rallied from a 5-0 deficit in a WSC game at Bakersfield.

With the score tied, 7-7, and two out in the eighth, Valley came up with four consecutive singles to score three runs. Rob Kostenbader’s single gave Valley an 8-7 lead and Jess Ceniceros followed with a two-run single that extended Valley’s lead to 10-7.

Mike Murray had two hits and drove in two runs for Valley.

Bakersfield is 11-9, 0-4 in conference play.

Oxnard 5, Glendale 3--Tim Johnson was two for three with a double and an RBI for visiting Oxnard in a WSC game.

Kris Hagen and Juan Hernandez (2-1) combined for the victory for Oxnard. Hernandez pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Mission 10, L.A. City 2--Roy Lozano was three for five with three runs batted in and Manny Toledo doubled twice for host Mission (9-10, 1-1) in a Southern California Athletic Conference game.

Eddie Chavez (3-1) allowed four hits and two runs in 7 1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking seven.

The Master’s 3, Southern California College 1--Chris Beck pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing seven hits for Master’s (8-7) in a nonconference game at Southern California College.

Beck improved to 3-1 and Dan O’Sullivan was two for four with an RBI for Master’s.

Justin Pysar drove in the lone run for Southern California (5-7).

Cal Lutheran 12, Christ College 4--Visiting Cal Lutheran was the beneficiary of 14 walks from six pitchers in the nonconference victory.

David Leonhardt capped a seven-run second inning with a grand slam, his third home run of the season. Jay Lucas was three for four and Dan Weis was two for two with three RBIs on a single and a triple for Cal Lutheran (8-4).
