Ortega Highway Closed for Repairs

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Ortega Highway, a well-traveled commuter route between the Lake Elsinore area and Orange County, will remain closed for repairs from La Pata Avenue near San Juan Capistrano to Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the weekend, a Caltrans spokesman said.
The two-lane highway, California 74, has been closed for road repairs since March 1. The three-day torrential rainstorm last week caused a series of mud and rock slides that cascaded over the roadway, said Gary Franken, a Caltrans spokesman.
After preliminary work on the roadway was completed Tuesday, Caltrans opened the roadway in the early morning and late afternoon hours to allow commuters to pass through, Franken said.
