Design House ’91 Benefits South Bay Charity Group

Share

Design House ’91 in Palos Verdes Estates will be open to the public April 23 through May 12 to raise funds for projects of Sandpipers Inc., a philanthropic group that serves needy families and college students in the South Bay area.

The 6,500-square-foot home at 2800 Via Campesina, undergoing refurbishment by more than 35 Los Angeles-area interior and landscape designers, is a 1930s interpretation of Spanish architecture.

It sits on almost an acre and includes a large foyer, salon and music room, library, sun rooms, telephone room, billiards parlor and wine cellar.

The same structure was Sandpiper’s first Design House in 1975, and most rooms retain original Design House concepts. This year’s version features, for the first time, several garden areas created by 12 local landscape designers.

Visiting hours will be 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday; 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. The house will be closed Mondays.

Private evenings for parties of 50 to 80 may be planned and include a house tour. Tour tickets ($12 and $15) are available at Morgan Moore Stationers in Redondo Beach, Peninsula Stationers on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Christie in Manhattan Beach and all Ticketron locations. For information call (213) 374-1403.
