Gordon Vinther, Oxnard recreation superintendent, will resign effective March 30 to take a similar post in Oakland, city officials said.

Employed by the Oxnard Parks and Recreation Department for 15 years, Vinther will be Oakland’s recreation service manager, overseeing all community centers, municipal pools, sports programs and special events.

Vinther has been credited with advancing development of Oxnard’s senior center and arts buildings, additional tennis courts, softball fields and picnic facilities. He recently was project manager on the $1.2-million Colonia Gymnasium project, the construction of which is scheduled to begin in May.
