Edgar (Bud) Morrison, a former San Fernando Valley teacher and principal of Adams Junior High School in Los Angeles, has died in a Los Angeles hospital. He was 54.

A longtime San Fernando resident, Morrison died Thursday of a heart attack, said his son, Mark Morrison.

Born in Paris, Ky., Morrison came to California as a child and graduated from San Fernando High School in 1954, later earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cal State Northridge. Morrison started teaching physical education and health in the late 1950s at Sutter Junior High School in Canoga Park. During the Vietnam War, he served as a tank commander in the U.S. Army, returning afterward as a teacher at Sepulveda Junior High School in Sepulveda. Morrison later taught health and served as dean of boys at San Fernando High School and assistant principal at Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, Robert Frost Junior High School in Granada Hills and Mount Vernon Junior High School, Foshay Junior High School and Carver Junior High School, all in Los Angeles. In 1986, he became principal of Adams Junior High School in Los Angeles, a position that he held until his death.

A graduate of the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa., Morrison was past commander of the 40th Division Artillery and of the 3rd Battalion 144th Field Artillery for the California National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gerry Anne Morrison of San Fernando; two sons, Scott Morrison of Hollywood and Mark Morrison of Napa, Calif.; his mother, Rosa Morrison of Sylmar; and a brother, Harry (Lucky) Morrison of San Diego.

Funeral services will be private. San Fernando Mortuary in San Fernando is handling the arrangements. A memorial service is planned soon at Adams Junior High School. Donations can be made to a memorial scholarship fund in Morrison’s name at Adams Junior High School.
