Answering the KCAL Call: David J. Woodcock, who labored at KCOP Channel 13 from 1976-83 as sales manager and then station manager, is the new president and general manager of KCAL Channel 9, Disney’s one and only television station. Woodcock comes back to Los Angeles from Salt Lake City where he has been general manager of the ABC affiliate since 1983. He replaces the team Disney hired in May, 1989, to manage KCAL--Blake Byrne and Jim Saunders--who both resigned in recent months. Byrne left KCAL last September; Saunders announced in January that he was leaving to head the CBS affiliate in Sacramento, but he agreed to serve as caretaker of KCAL until Disney found a replacement.
