Byron T. Robinson Sr., who worked for the Glendale Fire Department for 27 years, has died in Laughlin, Nev. He was 74.

A longtime resident of Glendale, Robinson died Monday of a heart attack, said his son, Byron R. Robinson Jr.

Born in Masontown, W. Va., Robinson served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He came to California and joined the Glendale Fire Department in 1948, retiring in 1975 at the rank of fire engineer. Robinson was a member of the Glendale Elks Club, the Burbank Recreation Club and the North Glendale United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Byron T. Robinson Jr. of Huntington Beach; daughters Donna K. Fitzpatrick of Glendale and Jill Scheel of Pasadena; sisters Flossie DeVault of Albuquerque, N.M., Jessie Heiskel of Morgantown, W. Va., and Helen Richardson of Fairmont, W.Va., and three grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Little Church of the Flowers, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Ave. in Glendale. Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements. Donations can be sent in Robinson’s name to the American Heart Assn.
