Lemon Grove
Authorities were investigating the slaying of a Lemon Grove woman, whose battered body was found in the living room of her apartment, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Bertha Iona Pittman, 51, was discovered at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 7000 block of Pacific Avenue by relatives who became concerned after she did not answer repeated phone calls, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Bill Kahn said. She apparently had been severely beaten.
Detectives were trying to determine the motive for the slaying, Kahn said.
Pittman lived alone and was unemployed, Kahn said.
