Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

The rocking Black Crowes inched up one notch into the Top Five of the Billboard magazine chart with “Shake Your Money Maker,” which has been out just over a year. The band members continue to spend much of their time denying that they’re Rolling-Stones wannabes. The hottest new album on the chart is the soundtrack from “The Doors” movie, which jumped from No. 40 to No. 16 after just two weeks. The album by the kiddie soul group Another Bad Creation, “Coolin’ at the Playground Ya’ Know!,” is streaking up the chart, landing at No. 26 after four chart weeks. Gloria Estefan’s “Coming Out of the Dark” is the new No. 1 pop single.

* The appeal of R.E.M.’s melodic, hard-edged pop-rock gets stronger with each album. The band’s latest, “Out of Time,” debuted at No. 27 and is a shoo-in to reach the Top 10.
