A tense standoff outside the Fallbrook home of white supremacist Tom Metzger ended Sunday night with San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies arresting two Latino juveniles whom Metzger sprayed with Mace after he caught them vandalizing his mailbox, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., deputies received reports that shots had been fired outside Metzger’s house and that about a dozen people were involved in a physical confrontation.

According to a sheriff’s spokesman, the incident began when the two boys and their girlfriends, knowing who Metzger was, went to his house and began beating on his mailbox.

When Metzger confronted them, the two boys became combative and began taunting Metzger, at which point he sprayed them with Mace. The sheriff’s spokesman said Metzger is authorized to carry Mace for self-defense.

The two Latinos also were combative with deputies, who arrested them and charged them with malicious mischief and resisting arrest, the sheriff’s spokesman said. After both were taken to a hospital to have the Mace washed out of their eyes, they were taken to Juvenile Hall late Sunday night.
