Airport Is Not in Their Back Yards

Share

Dottie Alba’s letter on flight patterns at Burbank airport lumps all protesters with those living right next to the airport fences.

Not true. I live several miles from the airport, and I lived here in a quiet neighborhood for 40 years. And 40 or 45 years ago, when there were just farmlands at the airport sites, there were also no jet planes. There are now.

I never use Burbank Airport. If I object to the noise it creates in my neighborhood, it would be hypocritical of me to set foot on any plane that produces that noise. It may be an asset to some to have air service out of Burbank, but this once-in-a-while convenience for them creates a daily ear-splitting, anxiety-producing nightmare for many residents.

I note Alba lives in Palmdale, an area slated for airport development. I hope that she never wakes up one morning to find a newly instituted flight pattern overhead, which is what happened to us.
