Preliminary Vote OKs Bradley Ally for MWD Post

Share

A Los Angeles City Council committee gave tentative approval Tuesday to the appointment of Mayor Tom Bradley’s ally, Michael Gage, to the Metropolitan Water District Board of Directors.

Gage, the brash president of the city’s Department of Water and Power Board of Commissioners, would serve as one of the city’s eight representatives on the 51-member MWD board. He would be the first DWP commissioner to serve on the MWD board.

The council’s Commerce, Energy and Natural Resources Committee unanimously agreed on Gage’s appointment. However, it decided to await a pending legal opinion by the city attorney’s office before taking a final vote. The opinion is expected to find there is no conflict with Gage serving concurrently as a DWP commissioner and an MWD director.
