All-Star outfielder Bobby Bonilla rejected the Pittsburgh Pirates’ latest contract offer, an unusual four-year deal that essentially would have allowed him to become a free agent after each season.

Despite Bonilla’s rejection of a contract worth more than $4 million annually, or twice as much as any Pirate had made until this season, team President Carl Barger said the Pirates would continue trying to complete the deal.
