Animal Agency Tightens Spay, Neutering Policy
Beginning Monday, only spayed or neutered pets will be released for adoption at shelters run by the Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The move makes the society the first animal control agency in Los Angeles County to initiate such a policy. Although the agency has spayed and neutered all cats and purebred dogs before adoption for several years, mixed-breed canines will be included under the expanded program, said Ed Cubrda, president of the animal control agency.
Congress last year designated April as National Prevent a Litter Month, “so April seemed the appropriate time to launch our new program,”Cubrda said.
“There were many ramifications to be considered and logistical problems to be worked out, but this organization is enthused about doing what we know is right for the animals,” he said.
