Commuter Tax

Share

After living in downtown Los Angeles as a poet-artist for 10 years, I have moved with my wife to San Clemente.

As a former L.A. resident who tried to use his car as little as possible, I must say I was shocked to discover that many folks in Orange County drive to Los Angeles to work every morning and return at dusk to their generic houses.

This strange lemming-like sight has given me an idea! Our President has asked all Americans to take care of themselves on a city/county level as the federal government has more humanitarian things to do such as selling weapons to the world. Since all these people are streaming into L.A. and taking the money without paying for any of the problems of inner-city living, why not do as the mayor of Hartford, Conn., has suggested and levy a wage tax. A wage tax, but only on workers who are non-Los Angeles residents; the thousands who flock to L.A. by day only to race back to their suburbs before dark.
