BIOSPHERE 2: The Human Experiment by John Allen (Penguin: $16.95, illustrated). This spring, eight human volunteers will enter Biosphere 2, a 3.15-acre building designed to function as a prototypal space station or extraterrestrial colony. They hope to spend two years in this sealed, self-sustaining environment that includes a miniature rain forest, desert, savannah, ocean and marshes, inhabited by 3,800 other animals and plants.
