The weather stats for the opening day of the Padres’ baseball season Tuesday didn’t produce any temperature records, but the mercury did climb into the 80s and even the 90s in some parts of the county, according to the National Weather Service in San Diego.

Lindbergh Field recorded a high of 79, well shy of the 90-degree record set for the date in 1968, meteorologist Wilbur Shigehara said, but still well above the normal high of 68.

“We were close but no cigars this time,” he said. “It was just a really nice, warm day.”

In any case, it was well above the record low of 43 degrees set in 1893.

Sunny days and pleasant temperatures are expected through the weekend, Shigehara said.

Despite the mild temperatures at Lindbergh, the mercury soared in some areas. Borrego Springs reached 91 degrees; Brown Field, 80; Coronado, 80; El Centro, 88; Fallbrook, 86; La Mesa, 84; Lemon Grove, 85; Miramar, 82; National City, 82; Poway, 83; Santee, 86, and Vista, 80.

Slightly cooler temperatures were recorded in Chula Vista, with 78; Del Mar, 73, and Imperial Beach, 75. Oceanside saw a high of 67.

The air quality for San Diego County ranged from moderate to good, with no unsafe conditions reported.

Breezy winds, gusting to 30 m.p.h. in the mountains and deserts, are expected today and Thursday, but will die down by Friday, Shigehara said.
