COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Parker’s Three RBIs Help OCC Win

Corey Parker had two doubles and drove in three runs as Orange Coast defeated Cypress, 5-4, in an Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday in Costa Mesa.

Parker had a two-run double in the first and an RBI double in the third. Mike Burns had two hits and two RBIs for OCC (21-12-1, 6-9).

Troy Babbitt had three hits and three RBIs and Jason Bates had two hits and scored two runs for Cypress (21-10, 8-7).

George Kinard (4-3) pitched eight-plus innings, allowing seven hits and four runs for the victory. Kinard hit Rob Utz to start the ninth and was replaced by Chad Rolish, who got three outs for the save.

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Golden West 8, Saddleback 7--Jason White’s infield single scored Harvey Perez with two outs to break a 7-7 tie in the ninth for host Golden West (12-14, 7-7). Ryan Relph had three hits and four RBIs for Saddleback (12-17, 4-11). Steve Rath tripled in three runs in the eighth to give Golden West a 7-5 lead before Saddleback scored twice in the ninth to tie it.

Riverside 7, Fullerton 3--Matt McElreath, a transfer from Cal State Fullerton, hit a bases-loaded triple in the fourth to cap a four-run inning for host Riverside (24-9, 8-6). Frank Sarver had three hits for Fullerton (20-13, 7-8).

In a nonconference game:

Rancho Santiago 24, San Diego City 2--Tom Mendoza had a three-run double and finished with five RBIs for visiting Rancho Santiago (28-6).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Cypress 0--Saddleback (14-1, 10-0) clinched a tie for the Orange Empire Conference title with the sweep at Cypress. Esteban Saba won, 6-0, 6-2, and Scott Hanson won 6-0, 6-0, in singles for Saddleback.
