Alhambra : Exemption From Size Limit

Share

The City Council voted 3 to 2 Monday to exempt from size limits any multifamily dwellings whose plans have already been submitted for city consideration.

Councilwoman Barbara A. Messina proposed the exemption when the size limits were adopted last month, arguing that developers with pending proposals have already faced enough obstacles, including a recently ended building moratorium. She cited the case of an acquaintance who has been paying interest on a construction loan even though building on the project has been delayed.

Alhambra City Council--A digest item Thursday mischaracterized the person cited by Alhambra City Councilwoman Barbara A. Messina in proposing an exemption to an ordinance limiting building size. That person should have been identified as a constituent.

However, Vice Mayor Mary Louise Bunker said Messina’s acquaintance should not have taken out a loan before getting city approval on the project. Bunker and Mayor Boyd G. Condie voted against the exemption.
