Sheriff’s detectives with the Operation Safe Streets gang unit arrested half a dozen suspected Carson gang members Tuesday in connection with separate confrontations two weeks ago, including one incident in which a youth pointed a shotgun at a bus full of junior high school children.

Jose Montes, 18, two 16-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy were booked on suspicion of exhibiting a firearm at an occupied vehicle, said Sheriff’s Deputy Rafael Estrada of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The juveniles were released Tuesday to the custody of their parents.

Sgt. Richard Davidson of the sheriff’s gang unit in Carson said the youths were in a car on Santa Fe Avenue near Dominguez Street on March 29 when they recognized friends of a rival gang on the school bus and one of the alleged gang members pointed the shotgun. No injuries were reported.

A second, unrelated confrontation March 29 led to the arrest and booking Tuesday of Andres Guillermo, 19, and Walter Dominguez, 18, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Estrada said. In that incident, he said, the occupants of one vehicle opened fire on passengers in another car on 192nd Street near Main Street. No one was injured.

During the investigations, detectives seized three handguns, two .22-caliber rifles, and three shotguns, one of which may have been displayed at the school bus, Davidson said.

In both incidents, the suspects were recognized by their intended victims, who notified authorities, Davidson said.
