Ron Caron, general manager of the St. Louis Blues, was banned from the press box for the remainder of the playoffs for his part in a Game 2 confrontation with Detroit Red Wings’ backup goaltender Glen Hanlon, the NHL said Wednesday.

Caron also was fined $1,000 and the Blues were fined $10,000. Hanlon, who was sitting in the auxiliary press box, was fined $100.

The incident occurred after the Red Wings’ Bob Probert was assessed a double-minor penalty for slashing Blues’ defenseman Garth Butcher and punching goaltender Vincent Riendeau.

Caron, who contended the penalty should have been much stiffer, immediately jumped up from his private box seat and walked around the Arena’s perimeter to criticize Probert’s actions. Hanlon took offense to the remarks and the two scuffled briefly.
