BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Murray Says His Hip Isn’t Improving

Share

Eddie Murray hobbled out of the trainer’s room after missing Thursday’s game and said his sore right hip was not improving. He could miss several more days, pending an examination and possible X-rays by Dodger doctors today.

“It’s not good,” Murray said of the hip. “Some days it feels fine, but today . . . no. This is really hard, because these are games that count.”

Murray initially injured the hip on the hard artificial turf in the New Orleans Superdome during the Dodgers’ trip there in spring training, then aggravated the injury in the first game of the Freeway Series.

He felt good enough to start on opening day Wednesday, but he irritated the hip again during the game, in which he went hitless in three at-bats even though he hit the ball hard each time.

Mike Scioscia has five hits in his first eight at-bats. . . . Jeff Hamilton struggled in his debut as a platoon third baseman by going hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts. He also made a wild throw to first base in the ninth inning that led to the Braves’ second run. . . . After 18 innings, the Dodger pitching staff has yet to issue a walk.
