Jamey Sheridan Got a Good Deal: He’s Returning to NBC as ‘Shannon’

Being the star of a one-hour dramatic series is no walk in the park. Just ask Jamey Sheridan, who stars in NBC’s “Shannon’s Deal” as disillusioned attorney and recovering gambling addict Jack Shannon.

“I always thought I was a fairly meek individual,” Sheridan says. “I sort of found out this year how much of a warrior I can be.”

Sheridan’s exhausted from filming eight new episodes of the series, which returned to the Peacock network lineup last Tuesday. Not only did Sheridan have to cope with the grueling shooting schedule, he also had to adjust to a different director each week.

“It puts a lot of pressure on me because I am the only constant creatively,” he explains. “These guys (the directors) come in and get their eight days and then I have to show up the next morning at dawn for the next guy. They all have different ways of working. It means I always have to switch from one horse to the other horse. It would help if I wasn’t in every frame.”

Sheridan sighs: “In the theater, we used to have four weeks of glorious rehearsals. I’ve stopped dreaming about women and begun dreaming of rehearsals now.”

Sheridan also is starring opposite Edward James Olmos in Paramount’s baseball film, “Talent for the Game,” set to open April 26, in which he plays a former major league baseball player who becomes director of scouting for his team.

“I am not a great guy,” Sheridan says. “I am playing a guy who is willing to do anything to keep his job. One of the attractions of the role is that he is kind of a jerk--they’re much easier to play than the nice guy.”
