BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Davis Is Thinner, Healthier and Happier

Chili Davis didn’t like what he saw of real estate offerings in the Twin Cities, so he’s living in a hotel for the moment.

“When I feel like hanging out with Prince, I’ll buy a place,” said Davis, who left the Angels in January to sign with the Twins as a new-look free agent. “I have nothing against living here. It’s just this cold weather. I’m from Jamaica, and I don’t like the cold.”

The temperature here Friday was 35 degrees with snow flurries, but that hasn’t cooled Davis’ affection for his new team.

Davis is thinner, healthier and happier than last season, when back problems limited him to a .265 batting average and 58 runs batted in after he drove in 93 and 90 in his first two Angel seasons.

“I went to spring training 25 pounds lighter, and it’s helped my back a lot,” Davis said. “Being out of shape somewhat helped bring back my injury last season. I’m going to have to use that as a reason to stay in shape. Last year, there were at-bats that I felt if I took a full swing at a pitch, something was going to give.”
