Dick Manning; Tunesmith Wrote Old-Fashioned Songs

Dick Manning, 78, pianist and songwriter who collaborated on what he described as “good, solid, old-fashioned songs” like “Takes Two to Tango” and “Allegheny Moon.” Born in Russia and educated at the Philadelphia Conservatory and Juilliard, Manning teamed up with Seattle bandleader Al Hoffman to write about 300 songs. Several of their Tin Pan Alley works in the late 1940s and 1950s, such as “Papa Loves Mambo” and “Hot Diggity” were recorded by Perry Como. Manning wrote lyrics and composed music.
