Suspected Bomb Forces Police to Evacuate Station
A suspected bomb prompted an evacuation of a Covina police station early Monday but the device turned out to be several road flares and a digital timer, authorities said.
The device was located after a man telephoned police shortly before 3:30 a.m., telling officers that a bomb had been “attached” to the station and “good luck in finding it,” Lt. Kim Raney said. Officers found the device on the north wall of the station, Raney said.
Seven officers and 17 prisoners were evacuated from the station at 444 N. Citrus Ave. A dispatcher remained on duty in a secure area of the building while the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department bomb squad was called to the scene, Raney said. The device turned out to be highway safety flares, electrical wires and a timing device.
