Truck Hits, Kills Man Walking on Off-Ramp

A Mission Hills man walking along the Hollywood Freeway was killed when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said Monday.

Antonio Ramirez Jr., 33, died about 2 a.m. Sunday after he was hit by a pickup driven by James Edward Govea, 25, of Arleta on the northbound off-ramp at Roscoe Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Jayne Suits said.

Govea told police he was driving up the off-ramp about 60 m.p.h. when he heard a noise and felt something strike his pickup, Suits said. Officers on the scene arrested him on suspicion of felony drunk driving.

It was unclear why Ramirez was walking on the freeway.
