Brett Hull’s breakaway goal snapped a tie late in the second period as the St. Louis Blues completed a remarkable comeback to beat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2, in Game 7 of their opening-round playoff series Tuesday night.

In addition to Hull’s league-leading eighth goal of the playoffs, Dan Quinn and Rich Sutter also scored and Adam Oates had two assists as the Blues became the eighth team in NHL history to come back from a three-games-to-one deficit to win a playoff.

The most recent was last year’s Edmonton Oilers, who defeated Winnipeg en route to their fifth Stanley Cup in seven years.

The Blues advanced to the Norris Division finals against Minnesota, which upset Chicago in six games. The first game of the series is Thursday night at St. Louis.

Hull put the Blues ahead to stay with 21 seconds left in the second period. Oates stole the puck from Bob Probert in the Blues’ zone and passed it up ice to Hull, who beat Tim Cheveldae with a high slap shot.
